Les AMIS Concerts has introduced new performers, new repertoire and innovative music-making to the classical music canon in the 39 years since incorporating in 1983.
Now, in its 40th year, Les AMIS' primary goal continues to be to nurture talented young musicians at the earliest stages of their professional careers. It is also its policy to introduce them to works by contemporary Canadian composers at every opportunity. Emerging artists are showcased with more established performers who, in many cases, were first presented by Les AMIS at the beginning of their careers. Les AMIS aims to achieve its goals by sponsoring recitals with programs containing works selected by the performers themselves. As well, at least one Canadian composition is recommended or commissioned by Les AMIS especially for them. In this way, the Les AMIS audience is continuously introduced to upcoming artists as well as new Canadian music repertoire.

Project Earth: The Blue Chapter
Iris TrioCelebrated for their imaginative programming and powerhouse performances, the Iris Trio (clarinetist Christine Carter, violist Zoë Martin-Doike, and pianist Anna Petrova) returns to Canada for a much-anticipated tour. Together with distinguished Canadian poet, Don McKay (Governor General’s Award, Griffin Poetry Prize), they present the “Blue Chapter” of their multi-year “Project Earth,” including stunning new works by McKay and Juno-nominated composer/jazz pianist Florian Hoefner.
Project Earth is the Trio’s response to the triple planetary crisis. Through newly commissioned poetry and genre-crossing chamber music, the project strives to illuminate the impact of human behavior on the environment, addressing issues of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, while recognizing the power of our collective imagination to create meaningful change.
